WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER.
The trio were born to two parents who never loved each other. Blackblizzard forced himself upon Feathershade, and was happy when she died during childbirth. He gave the kits to a nursing queen and then left, never once caring for them again. He died a couple moons later, ironically beaten to death by a horse. The kits didn't care very much, seeing as they weren't close to either of their parents. The queen who took them wasn't very nice either, forcing them to raise themselves. And so they did. When they were old enough to walk and talk, it was apparent that Gingerpaw was the fatherly one, the one who was smart and thoughtful and always did what was morally right. Blackpaw was shy and quiet, always following Gingerpaw like a lost puppy. And Orangeflash, well he was the black sheep of the family. He rebelled in ever way, breaking every rule he wanted to because he could. No one could control him, though many tried. He did what he wanted, no matter what.
When they became apprentices, it became apparent that Gingerpaw was the favorite of all the warriors. He was the smartest, the fastest, and the most well-behaved. But he got distracted easily by females. It was his one fault. Unless you count trusting cats too much as a fault. Orangeflash had a female mentor, named Shadedapple. She was young, just barely out of apprenticeship herself. She trained him in everything she knew, but she had her own problems. Orangeflash never really asked what they were, but he could see it in her eyes when she thought he wasn't looking. There was something wrong underneath - in her heart - but he figured he wouldn't press into it. If she wanted to tell him, she knew he was there. He wasn't exactly the most well behaved apprentice for her either. He snuck out at night, he disobeyed her orders, and he would miss training appointments. Let's just say he thought he had better things to do. Like explore. Or battle horses in his mind.
One day, Gingerpaw and Blackpaw went out with their mentors to go train by the lake. A storm was coming in, but Gingerpaw insisted that they train for a little while before the storm started. Orangeflash and Shadedapple were supposed to go with them, but Shadedapple wasn't feeling up to it that day, so they stayed in and she trained him on how to take care of the elders. Or rather, she tried. The storm came in faster and harder than what anyone excepted. And when it was all over, Orangeflash and Shadedapple went out to look for his brothers since they weren't back yet. When they went to the lake, they found that the wind had washed a huge wave onto the shore, and the apprentices were taken out with the current. They didn't know how to swim. They never found the bodies, but no one had expected to either. Orangeflash was upset, but his pride wouldn't let him show it.
He became a warrior, and was still as hardheaded and rebellious as when he was apprentice. One day, he bumped into Shadedapple, and they began to talk. They started going out, running the moors for hours on end together. It was then that they fell in love, and became a couple. They had two kits together, Blackkit, who died of greencough in the winter, and Galefire, who is 26 moons old now. He loved Shadedapple, and she loved him. They loved their kits, and showed them was it was like to have loving parents. And then the pollution hit. It killed Shadedapple and Blackkit, and took a toll on Orangeflash. Shadedapple never got to live to see the new territory, being sick when the journey started and then dying not even a week into it. She was just too weak, from birth and from the pollution and from greencough. Galefire was sick the entire way, but Orangeflash fought for him to live. he fought for him to survive. He had to. Galefire was the only thing he had left, and he had to live. and he did. They made it to the new territories, and now only really talk in passing. They are very much different toms, with different ideals. Orangeflash could care less about starclan or their approval. He loves Galefire though. He is the whole reason Orange is still alive.

personality
Orangeflash used to be a very nice tom. When he was young, he was playful and always getting into trouble. He lived in the moment, not giving a care in the world for anyone but himself. He was very polite, and always had manners, but he was very selfish in that he did whatever he wanted. He would run the moors alone at night, and attempt to attack horses whenever he saw them. He thought of himself to be invincible. He was the greatest warrior in his eyes, and nothing could ever bring him down.
And then he met her.
When he fell in love with Shadedapple (shade + dapple), everything changed. He became down to earth, and thoughtful. He thought about her above all else, and no one could ever come between lest they wished to feel the wrath of Orangeflash. He was still very impulsive, and very temperamental, but he wasn't going out every night to become the invincible and feared Orangeflash. Instead, he would stay with her every night, and he gave her his world.
And then she died.
When Shadedapple died, Orangeflash turned into a somber male. A sullen warrior who had been hurt too much. He devoted his time to training and honing his skills as a fighter. He became obsessed with running and fighting, trying to become the best at both. He spends his days alone, training in the moors. He doesn't wish to see other cats or talk to them. He goes into camp to see if he has to go on a patrol and then leaves to start his day. He rarely brings food back, but he figures they should be happy he is still around. After all, he is one of the only senior warriors they have. He has become very thoughtful and patient over the moons, and after losing his love, he knows there are more important things than silly battles over stupid things.
