LIKE ALL MAGNIFICENT THINGS, IT IS VERY SIMPLE.
To understand Cherry, you must first understand her parents. Paramore was a rogue who cared nothing for anyone. She killed her kits early in life, her lovers, her everything. She killed anyone she cared about. She hated everyone, hated everything. She was psychotic, even more so than Cherrysong is. Cloudheart was a Shadowclan warrior, a shy and simple soul who only wanted excitement in his life. And he got it when one day he ran into Paramore. He stumbled upon her in the forest one evening and instantly knew that his life had changed. After trying to kill him, but failing, Paramore decided to stick around for a bit. She didn't know what would happen because she did.
When she found out she was pregnant with kits it is fair to say that she was not a happy camper. Remember, she had killed her previous litter, leaving them to die in the leafbare snow. Cloudheart convinced her to have them, and then he would take them into Shadowclan. She wouldn't have to take care of them. Not in the least. As a consequence, after she had the litter she ran as fast as she could from there. And Cloud could never tell his kits who he was to them. Heartbroken, he had to watch his kits grow from afar. He had to watch them struggle with all the challenges of not knowing who they were or where they came from, not being able to tell them the answer. It nearly killed him on multiple occasions.
The two kits, Foxkit and Cherrykit, were nursed back to health by a willing queen, but never really got attached to her in the way that most kits do. They rather stuck to themselves, not caring for anyone else. Foxkit was a very submissive tom from the start. Cherry instantly ran all over him, being born with all her wonderful qualities. He worshipped her, though, because she was the only family he had. And he had to have someone. He would never had made it in the real world without her. She made sure he was taken care of, in exchange for him doing whatever she wanted him to do. Even if that meant partaking in illegal activities with her. As a kit she was always trouble, always sneaking out and always exploring. She didn't have a father to tell her no, and so she took it upon herself to do whatever she wanted. Fox, however, was very against it, very against breaking the rules in any sort of way. Eventually he rubbed off on her, and by the time she was 6 moons old she had made it her duty to tell everyone what to do.
As apprentices, it was ironic that Cherrysong's mentor was Cloudheart. He seemed to be the one to even be remotely able to control her, seeing as he was the one that "found" them. Foxkit was stuck with a die-hard-live-free type tomcat who had much better things to do than train him. So Cloud took over him as well. Seeing as Foxpaw could do nothing without Cherry's permission, not even go on a walk. As they trained, it became quickly evident that Cherry thought these things to be silly. She would much rather tell others how to do them than do it herself. So she helped Foxpaw learn how to take care of himself. She helped him learn how to fight and how to hunt, never really caring to practice much on her skills. Not to say that she doesn't know how. She didn't want to get her claws dirty.
It happened when they were 10 moons old. They were out hunting together, well rather Foxpaw was hunting and Cherry was critiquing, when a figure appeared from seemingly no where. Cloudheart quickly got between them, fur ruffled and fangs barred. Cherry was so confused, she didn't know who this cat was. She seemed pretty, and familiar. She looked like Fox, actually. Then it hit her. It must be her mother! Cherry bubbled with excitement and bounded to Paramore, who smiled at her kit. She saw malice flash in her mother's eyes as she looked toward Cloudheart, but Cherry didn't care! It was her mother! You're my mother aren't you? Paramore nodded to her, but her eyes focused on Cloudheart. Cherry watched as the two started circling, and she suddenly understood. Cloudheart must be their father, and they were fighting over who took the kits. She listened as her mother insisted it would be her, while Cloudheart said over his dead body. Cherry put herself between them, hissing to grab their attention. She suggested they let the kits choose, because they were old enough to do so. Fox made his decision to go with Paramore quickly, and Cherry could not stop him.
She looked between her new found parents, scared and not sure which one was better for her. As she was deciding, Paramore's eyes flashed with malice once more toward her father. That made her decision easy. Cloud would protect her, Paramore would kill her. As she stated her decision, Paramore lunged at Cloud. He was never a match for her, he never stood a chance. She watched as her mother tore at Cloud's throat, but was not filled with the desire to help the dying male. She ran, ran back for camp as fast as she could. She had to save herself. She didn't care what happened to anyone else back there. She was the only one who mattered. She burst into camp, and the leader sent out a patrol to handle the situation. She was not surprised when they brought back Cloud's dead body and reported that the loner and her brother had run off. She didn't want to think about what Paramore would do to Fox.
Seeing as she was so close to being a warrior anyway, the leader went ahead and made her one. It was right about then that things started going downhill. Prey started going bad, herbs turned poisonous. And though she wasn't exactly liking going hungry all the time, she always admired whoever put that plan into place. It was very effective. They obviously wanted the clans gone, and it worked. She was all for relocating anyway. Cherry enjoyed her old territory, but it was getting quiet and boring. Much too monotonous for her. She was excited when they finally decided to move and go on a journey. Which was tiring, yes, but she enjoyed being able to scold cats constantly every day all the time. She was sure that it got annoying, but she didn't really care. If they didn't want her to do it, then they should have been doing the right things. However much she enjoyed the exhausting journey, she was a little more than ecstatic when they finally decided to stop. And since she doesn't believe in Starclan, she doesn't care if they approve of it or not. She also doesn't see why everyone is making such a big deal out of it either.

personality
Cherry holds herself to a certain standard - a standard that higher than what most would give themselves. She has no issue with self confidence, unless you call having too much of it an issue. She holds her up with pride because she has pride, and the ego to go along with it. Not that she thinks she is pretty or seductive in any way, she just likes who she is. She is confident in her personality, in who she is. She doesn't care what others think because they are below her. Everyone is below her in her mind. She doesn't pretend to be a goddess, but she certainly would not object to being called one. With her appearance and smooth voice, she could certainly be mistaken for one by a fool.
She does not hunt, nor will she fight unless specifically called upon to do so. Such things are for cats much, much lower than her. She believes herself to be the kind of warrior who is better suited to be supervising than actually doing things. So often times you'll find her walking around the territory scolding warriors and apprentices who seem to be doing nothing. She has a knack for finding wrong doers, so watch out when she's around. She doesn't have any real power, and whether or not a cat will listen to what she says is their problem. She's just trying to help them out. She can be seen as annoying and bossy and overpowering, which she is. So, there's not really much to say on that. She just doesn't care what others think about her. Mostly because in her mind, everyone is below her. She has yet to find a cat who she has thought to be more than vermin.
She is not someone to be sympathetic or have an ounce of empathy within her. She simply just doesn't care unless it concerns her. At all. Sure she cares about the clans, but not really in the way "oh I'll die for my clan and the code". She just respects them, but not their leaders. Even leaders are not above her, not surprisingly. In her mind they are simply glorified warriors. And will never be anything else unless she deems someone fit to be called a leader. (She won't even refer to them as leaders to their face. She's just that arrogant.) She respects the position they hold, but they will never be able to control her. They may suggest she do something, but that in no way means she will follow it.
She can be very crude. Very. She has not an ounce of care for other's feelings. She is the text book definition for a narcissist. Not only is a narcissist, but she is also a sociopath. She is a dangerous combination of mental ailments, and trust me she isn't one that you would want on your enemy list. She is a much better friend, or well, at least business partner. She isn't really capable of having friends, or feeling care toward anyone at all. Everyone is an object to her, pawns to be used and played as she sees fit. Her selfishness, however, will be her downfall. She thinks nothing of anyone else, mostly because she doesn't know what it feels like to care about someone and never will. So, if you have an agreement, let's say, with her and someone comes along and offers her something better, she will not think twice about double crossing you. In fact, she might even rejoice in it. She enjoys seeing other's in pain. She loves to see them cry and to hurt. It makes her feel strong, for she has never shed a tear in her life. She is incapable of doing so.
She doesn't try to hide her selfishness. She doesn't hide that she thinks that she is everything, and no one will ever be above her. She doesn't need to. No one knows the depth of her desires, no one knows what she dreams about at night. She knows that ruling the clan, being leader would not be a good position. No, you are restricted by duty and politics. She would prefer to just be able to pull the strings, to be the real ruler behind the clan. Not all, just hers. But she tells no one that. She knows what they would say if they found out. She doesn't want to be supreme ruler of all, she's much too lazy for that. She would let someone else rule it while she made all the decisions. That would be her ideal place. Or even worshipped as a goddess.
