ANY FEAR IN MY SOUL I'M LETTING GO.
personality
Dawnfire is soft-spoken and shy, but in a very endearing manner. He stutters when he speaks, tangling his tongue in his discomfort. He's just plain socially awkward. He's not sure what to say, afraid he's gonna hurt someone's feelings or make even more of a fool out of himself. He has a tendency to keep quiet just overall, preferring to listen then talk. He likes to be the shoulder to cry on or the cat others run to, even though he has little advice to give when it comes down to it.
He's comical. He trips often and says rather stupid things at the wrong time every now and again, and when it comes to sarcasm it is as foreign to him as Chinese. His slightly twisted paw keeps him constantly off-balance. He tries his best, but he often gets distracted by his own thoughts and will make blunders. He never does seem to mind getting laughed at, often assuming a rather embarrassed stature and trying to fix the damage or mess he caused.
He's plain selfless. He cares about others more than he does himself. He never wants to hurt someone's feelings, part of the reason he doesn't talk often, but he will if its the right thing. He always follows the right path, or at least the one he thinks is right, no matter how much dislike it gets him. He will protect everyone over all else. This does not make him a needs of the many outweighs the needs of the few, no, he does his best to not leave any casualties behind. He may not be the best at what he does, or even the savviest, but he has a big heart and sometimes that can go a long way.
Times when there is a crisis, when something is going wrong and endangering his clanmates (or any cat for that matter, he's pretty general when it comes to who he sweeps under his wing) a strange confidence comes over him. He'll do anything, order anyone, to get as many cats out as he can. His stutter will fade, sometimes altogether, and he will assume something of a different personality. The details of that particular personality simple involve a stronger, more decisive version of the normal Dawnfire. He still speaks little, but he is sure in everything he says.
A quick rundown:
Cons/Weaknesses: Shy, stutters, low self-confidence, clumsy, gets lost in his own head
Pros/Strengths: Selfless, responsible, can become very confident in a crisis, always tries his best, no temper

history
Dawnstar was born Dawnkit to Lilyrose and Snowlance. His father had high standards, and was disappointed when their single kit was both small and slightly deformed. His father promptly abandoned Lilyrose for another, healthier female, leaving her to raise Dawnkit alone. She teamed up with the previous Medicine cat, Featherwing, and tried to work his kinked paw out. But it never did turn back. He grew with the hope that he would become a warrior, but was soon turned from that road and assigned to his aunt-by-bond Featherwing as an apprentice. He grew to the work exceptionally well, already surprisingly adept at eight moons.
He maintained a very close bond with his mother, who never had any more kits, and his mentor. For several long moons he lived the normal life of a Medicine cat apprentice, taking care of the lesser wounds and ailments and gathering herbs every spare moment. Then Featherwing fell sick. It was no sickness he was familiar with, and he was at a loss for how to help her. Soon, more were sick, like there was a slow poison seeping through the ranks of his clan. Together with his slowly dying mentor, he discovered that it was caused by the poisoned herbs and prey of the forest. Though he played no real part in it, he assumed his true rank as Medicine cat on the journey, when his mentor died and he was left to figure things out for himself.
When the land ran out and forced the clans to settle, like most Medicine cats he did his best to get everyone settled. He worked hard on finding the right herbs, which were not too different from those in the old forest, and soon settled into his position like he had always been there. He is constantly searching for a means to contact Starclan, and looks to build strong bonds with the other Medicine cats while he can.
