I COULDN'T LIE, EVERYTHING THAT KILLS ME MAKES ME FEEL ALIVE.
since they were kits whitedapple and ravenfeather were inseparable. they did everything together, and as they became warriors, it was naturally assumed for the two to mate and have children. riverclan was prosperous and nothing seemed to trouble any of the cats. one moon, a strange rogue found their camp and asked for 'a silver and white dappled she-cat.' naturally, that rogue was questioned until it was revealed that she was whitedapple's birth-mother. whitedapple's father had an affair with a rogue cat and brought the she-kit into riverclan to give her a healthy lifestyle. her father had died seasons ago, and the mother was long but forgotten. however, as the rogue-mother found her kit again, trouble began to stir within the mists of riverclan. whitedapple, who used to be a popular cat, was finding herself being isolated within her own clan. ravenfeather, as well, started to grow distant after learning about the origins of his once best friend.
and thus whitedapple went on to have three healthy kits: pebblekit, rowankit, and sparrowkit, each named. although the clan suspected that ravenfeather was the father of these kits, both cats denied it. it was assumed that whitedapple- like her father- had an affair with a rogue and brought the kits into riverclan. whitedapple was not forced out of her home because she had three healthy kits to offer to riverclan, instead, she was forced to live a solitary lifestyle within the clan itself. the third day of living, rowankit caught greencough and died in his mother's arms. about three moons in, pebblekit was caught in a flood and was never to be found again. whitedapple mourned the deaths of her kids and carried the mother's burden well on her shoulders. ravenfeather appeared unharmed and went on to have kits with another she-cat, the leader's daughter, mistcloud shortly after becoming riverclan's deputy. whitedapple never forgave him.
a couple days before sparrowkit's apprentice ceremony, whitedapple died trying to protect mistcloud's kits, tawnykit and icekit, from a two-leg dog. sparrowkit was heartbroken, and the apprentice ceremony was delayed. no cat, even though whitedapple had died a hero, wanted to mentor sparrowkit. after much dilemma, zephyrstar decided that it would be the safest to give ravenfeather whitedapple's kit. after all, whitedapple had formerly been ravenfeather's best friend, and she had died saving his kits from a twoleg dog. by then, it was all forgotten that sparrowkit could have potentially been ravenfeather's daughter. except for ravenfeather himself. ravenfeather never showed sparrowpaw any of the fatherly-love he could have shown her. in fact, he treated her more harshly than any of the other warriors could have. he constantly pushed her to try her best, while making slide insults on how that's all he would have expected from a rogue daughter. however, far from hating her deputy, sparrowpaw grew to admire the coldness and would constantly work to beat his expectations. she spoke little, learned much, and soon became one of the best apprentices riverclan had seen. when zephyrstar gave up his final life to old age, ravenfeather became ravenstar. ravenstar received one of his lives from whitedapple- and that was when she forgave him for everything that had happened. ravenstar became a lot more friendly with sparrowpaw after that- even giving her words of encouragement- something that was previously unheard of.
ever since day one, sparrowflight had been unapproachable. there was something about her- after being the daughter of the daughter of a rogue and the apprentice of the leader, other cats became timid around her. it didn't help that sparrowflight spoke as little as she possibly could. she was aloof, and preferred to spend her free time lost in thought while she was by the river. it was then that she saw a handsome shadowclan warrior who had the misfortune to be caught. he fell into the river and sparrowflight helped him out. he immediately began flirting with her, and she kept ignoring his attempts. eventually, she let him go after being satisfied that he meant no harm. sparrowflight received her first apprentice days after meeting the shadowclan warrior, her name was yarrowpaw. yarrowpaw was the opposite of sparrowflight. she was talkative, and foolish, and she was forced into battle too early. at the next battle with shadowclan over territory. sparrowflight was forced to watch her apprentice die at the hands of the shadowclan warrior that she had saved a few moons earlier. sparrowflight was devastated, and wouldn't come out of her den until ravenstar ordered the other warriors to forcibly remove her. the tom didn't realize that he had done until the next gathering when the gossip of the grieving she-cat spread.
the shadowclan tom kept coming to the riverclan border, enough so that the gossip spread like wildfire. apparently the shy riverclan warrior had admirers outside of her own clan. ravenstar called her in to talk, and after harshly reprimanding any outside of clan relationships, he let her go. sparrowflight was confused, and above all, frustrated that no one within her own clan seemed to listen to her when she said that she didn't know the tom. while sparrowflight was hunting on the border, the shadowclan tom approached her again. only to save the she-cat from twolegs that were watching. icecloud, ravenstar's daughter, had come to spy on her- and instead of sparrowflight falling for the tom, icecloud did. and she did hard. after learning that the tom was named whitestorm, icecloud and whitestorm entered a brief fling that resulted in icecloud leaving riverclan to go join shadowclan. ravenstar was heartbroken, and furious. it was almost enough to start a battle between the two clans had it not been for sparrowflight's interference. the warrior talked with ravenstar, and convinced him that one cat's loyalty was not the lives of countless others. the battle was called off and icecloud was forgotten for the time being, and sparrowflight earned ravenstar's trust.
tawnydapple, unknowingly named after whitedapple, was furious when she felt like sparrowflight was stealing her father's attention from her. green with envy, she schemed with other senior warriors within the clan to get rid of sparrowflight. they set up a trap along the gorge, but instead it was ravenstar that got caught in it. as ravenstar died, he confessed with his final breath that he was indeed sparrowflight's father and that he couldn't have been more proud to call her his daughter. the surrounding warriors were surprised, but sparrowflight acted like it had not affected her- she acted as if she had known all along. with this new found knowledge, the clan cats began to treat her as equals with the exception of tawnydapple. tawnydapple was furious to know that mistcloud wasn't the only cat that ravenstar had loved. she was even more furious to discover that she was named after whitedapple. tawnydapple, after various unsuccessful attempts to try to rid riverclan of the tabby warrior, died after being run over by a monster. sparrowflight remained unharmed, but still isolated. she refused to get close to anyone, even after her clan had begun to accept her.
the shrieks of mapleleaf echoed riverclan as mapleleaf fell ill to the bad prey as well. with the urging of ashenstar, riverclan agreed to travel and to leave the territories, and sparrowflight was forced to spend more time with the cats who called her family. the three weeks made her weak, and more irritable, leading her to lash out against those who tried to help her and those who need her help. they had never come to her before, so why did she want them now? they arrived at their new home and sparrowflight begrudgingly helped set up patrols and to emphasize riverclan's strength, however, she was and still has remained cold to most of her clan and still has not gotten over their betrayal- with silence from starclan, sparrowflight's belief in her ancestors are decreasing as well, wondering if she should actually abandon her clan and live on her own- but always convincing herself and deciding that she was needed.

personality
sparrowflight loves a good challenge. when other cats believe that she can't do something, she loves to prove them wrong. her determination sprouts from her childhood where the clanners shunned her for being the daughter of a half-clanner and believed that she was a half-clanner herself. she understood that the only way for the clan, and the forest, would accept her was to be the best warrior that she could be. sparrowflight, determined to prove others wrong, got into her fair share of trouble. once she receives a challenge, however, sparrowflight will not back down- even if it means risking her life. although she is not stupid, sparrowflight has more pride than brains. and she will not take anything that will damage her self esteem and her pride.
as a way to prove the nurture part of her personality, sparrowflight wouldn't have been so independent if her clan hadn't decided to shun her. since she became an apprentice, she learned to be self-sufficient. when she was in pain, she wouldn't go to the medicine cat: she would suck it up. when she was lonely, she would go take walks by the river. when she was hungry, she would hunt for herself before the clan. when she was tired, she would sleep. in her mind, she came first, and then it was the clan. however, as she grew up- she began to realize that the clan did come first. but only in means of protection and survival. she learned to cut of all other emotional attachments with the cats in her clan. and thus, she was independent, and refused anyone's help.
one of sparrowflight's biggest flaws is that she knows that she's beautiful. and she loves to flaunt it. she would frequently sit in the sunlight just to show off her pelt, and she would go for unnecessary swims just to show off her body. of course, she would only show off. when toms tried to make a move on her, she would ignore them. however, even though she doesn't give the toms attention- she hates it whenever someone ignores her for someone else.
sparrowflight may appear to be excellent at keeping her temper, however she isn't. there are a lot of little things that annoy her, such as the particular way a cat flicks his tail. sparrowflight understand that temper isn't a very desirable trait, but rather than exploding whenever she is angry, she gives scathing remarks in a cool, even tone of voice. while disguising her contempt with sweetness- when she is irritated would be the only time sparrowflight would say things in a sickly sweet voice. as a female, she is very good at fighting with words. but words aren't the only thing she fights with- she will not hesitate to go into battle with a cat, even if it is a member of her own clan.
the best trait that sparrowflight has, the one trait that makes her a very desirable warrior, is the fact that she can see the argument from all different sides. while she is very opinionated, in times of dilemma, she is willing to put aside her own beliefs and think. she knows that intelligence is attractive, and therefore uses it whenever she believes it may come in handy. she isn't one to get caught up in pathos, rather- she always uses logos to support her own arguments and the arguments of others. sparrowflight is a very analytical she-cat, and a great warrior who has the ability to “foresee” how certain cats will act just by observation.
forceful, always likes to be in charge. sparrowflight is the opposite of submissive and a push-over. instead of being pushed over, she likes pushing others over and implementing her ideas into other's minds. if you don't agree with her? fine- she'll make you agree. rather than waiting for something to happen, sparrowflight goes and demands for it to happen. patience is never a virtue with her. in fact, anything that doesn't go her way, is wrong. sparrowflight, while analytical and smart and independent, hates when others disagree with her. so she rarely speaks, unless she knows that most of the cats will agree with what she's saying- or, that is, if she is angry and just wants to make her own point.
“just give up.”
“maybe that's what you'll do, but i'd rather die than to give up.”

"well then, what do you suggest?”
“simple. think about it from their point of view. why would they waste their energy attacking us from the sides? they'll come right to the heart, the part that's not protected. one stab, and it'll all be over.”

“i'm not sure you understand whitedapple; it's not that i don't love you. it's just that-”
“then what? what is it then ravenfeather? if it's not love that plays into this, what other factor does? is she more desirable? more honorable? a better mate for a potential deputy to have?”
“yes.. it's exactly that.”
“i'm glad I understand. you have no kits; these kits have no father. they will never have a father.”
