WE'RE JUST THE BEST OF FRIENDS, AREN'T WE?
personality
Generally, Piketooth has a laid back air to him. He is smooth and casual in conversation, occasionally breaking out a jest if a friend is near. His role of deputy gave him a firmer coat beneath that when giving out clan duties or being addressed for help, and he can get a bit of a bite if faced with insubordination. He likes to stay calm and composed, or at least come across that way, in order to have control over any situation, dramatic or otherwise. However, those that have spent time around Piketooth know about the corrosives beneath this little mask.
Composure. Pike strives for it with every ounce of restraint he has. The tom has a strong whirlwind of emotions driving from his horrendous sensitivity and defensiveness; without bottling it, he could become a whiny kit in seconds. His self-esteem is practically non-existent, so he covers it with a confident front and stinging tongue at the slightest of remarks again him. However, his moons of working at patience means he is good at keeping things hidden from others and mouth closed, but he has a limit that can break and then the swell of his emotions will burst forward. When the storm is calm, however, he satisfies himself with passive-aggressive snarks and much back-talk about a cat that gets on his nerves.
To those he likes, Pike is friendly and unguarded with plenty of jokes (usually about other cats) to amuse them. Because he has so few friends he can be this way with, he tends to be very clingy and jealous if they show any signs of ignoring him or favoring someone else. He favors friendships with she-cats, and any clan cat with eyes can tell why; he can suddenly becomes rather awkward whenever a flirty, handsome tom so much come nears him. Despite his bad front this way, he is very closed about his love life; the second mates are so much as brought up he becomes very quiet and tries to switch the subject of conversation. This is a result of his hideous paranoia and lack of trust in those he isn't close with. Every word said by a cat he has no bond with is taken with a grain of salt. To those he is attached too, however, he can be very open and trusting, leaving him at their mercy if they were to ever betray him. He gives them earnest loyalty, and is respectful of their opinions and willing to stand up for or with them even at the cost of himself or image. Again, this is a rare privilege reserved for those he has a sincere bond with. With those he is neutral to or hates, he sometimes has trouble even listening to their words for more than a few seconds unless they are provoking him.
Paranoia and clingy tendencies are anxieties a Deputy cannot afford to constantly deal with. Piketooth serves his nerves on both of these matters with surprisingly sharp and put together lies. He isn't above playing with other heads or directly creating falsehoods, whether it is to make himself look better or avoid a conflict he knows he can't win. In fact, over the moons, lying is as casual as small-talk for him; small fibs roll off his tongue almost every day. That's the shame of being close to Piketooth, he will be devoted to you, but his love is twisted in nature, and he refuses to let anyone leave the bonds he forges with them. When he wants his way, he really isn't above anything to get it. Though he has yet to use this skill set for anything major, when and if his ambition swells, he may find himself more than capable as to getting what he wants. This also has made Piketooth a analyst of sorts, with a critical mind that skilfully examines the different paths and consequences that spring from his decisions and choice in words. At times, this can make him indecisive and cause him to over-think things to the point of being unable to see the positives in doing anything, particularly with his negative train of thought. Even worse is if those strong emotions of his swell forward. Then, every mask Piketooth painstakingly creates, every thread he carefully examined will melt away to reveal a brutally honest and pained tom.
Warrior code and justice have been wavering concepts for Piketooth. He was never a strong believer in StarClan, but honors warrior code as a way of keeping things together, and will judge cats in varying intensities depending on the situation. However, his mind has a funny way of working, and his ambition, paranoia, and/or jealousy are easy motivators for him to become quite the hypocrite; when he has a new, powerful goal in mind, he is no longer above breaking it himself. However, this is only in severe cases, and his tongue will have a way of voicing somewhat clear justifications for doing so, if he ever must.
Piketooth's seemingly carelessness can get on the nerves on some, and to an extent, he is on many matters. However, one of the few things Piketooth is, beneath the surface, not apathetic about his his clan duties. When it comes down to it, he takes his role within the Clan very seriously and always puts in full effort to every duty he is given. As Deputy, he can be rather clever and does think things through when he 's not emotionally compromised. He also takes in other ideas and thoughts on important matters, not too stubborn as long as the other cat has logical reasoning and isn't shouting at him. However, he is rather negative, always expecting the worst and mentally preparing himself for it. This gives him the advantage of being calm and composed in the event of a tragedy or during a battle. And, most importantly, he respects his leader above all and his discipline. He is one of the few cats he will directly bow his head to, and rarely questions his orders unless, of course, those emotions start coming up.
As Deputy and a tom whose self-consciousness made him well aware of the complexities of other's judgement and opinions, Piketooth sees the importance of keeping smooth relations with the other Clans in peacetime. He'll go to war just as gladly as any other clan mate with just enough cause (or perhaps his own ambition) but he sees no use creating tension over petty egos or disputes. That often makes him a mediator with his Clan and others, though, sometimes his sense of pride in his clan will complicate things if it starts to show itself, or his temper and biases. He isn't too proud to take the submissive stance in a small dispute if he thinks it will create peace, and can be put down in more important ones if the cat has a strong enough air of authority, reasoning, and, most importantly, hasn't pissed Piketooth off. If they have, then any speaking at all is practically worthless.
Though unsure of himself, Pike has a strong sense of superiority when it comes to his Clan. He licks clean a "dirty" pelt every hour or so, cringes if he hears a group of cats laughing (assuming it's about himself), and can't look a flirty tom in the eye; but RiverClan? Flawless. It isn't up to question the wisdom behind their decisions in the past, and if any other clan cat challenges a fellow fish-eater, he'll sweep into their defense despite probably not caring about them a second ago. It also means he cares very much for their image and going against anything that might make them seem weak.

history
Pike grew up with two older sisters and a sweet, caring mother. He had a healthy kithood, tussling and joking with his siblings and having a carefree, happy manner. As he got a older, he had a broad sense of curiosity, and he was always full of a million questions to ask everyone, particularly elders who's stories enthralled him. Pikekit's father was never around, and he wasn't even told his name. This wouldn't bother him until his apprenticeship, but until then, he satisfied himself with enjoying a time of no responsibilities and adornment by the rest of the Clan. Occasionally, his sisters would enter passionate and vicious fights, and the passive Pikekit would have to settle it before they ripped each others' ears off.
Piketooth's apprenticeship had a very rocky beginning. He was assigned to a sweet, young she-cat named Shadedfur who he was utterly horrible to along with anyone else who attempted to get close to him. She was startled and upset by his toxic behavior, not used to being hated by anyone because of her kindness. She didn't give up on him, however, unlike his two sisters and the other apprentices who avoided him. She put in great effort to break and understand Pikepaw's nastiness, and had many conversations with his mother on how to treat him. Most frustrating to her was that, no matter how sincere and open she was with Pikepaw, she could never grasp the reason for his bitter tongue, though assumed it had something to do with an absent father. He barely even tried in his training and scorned warrior code, kitty-pets, rouges, and plenty of other things with eye rolls and rants. Pikepaw had trouble accepting the reasons for his own behavior, which was his growing up and learning that his odd feelings and crushes were never aimed at she-cats. He tried in vain to convince himself otherwise, to stare at pretty she-cats and appreciate their beauty enough to love them, but he couldn't and developed a strong self hatred for what he viewed as a broken feature. He had no figure he felt could understand this, and so bottled it up and took out his anger on any passing cat who tried to befriend him. However, slowly, with each passing moon, Pike's volatile front broke down and his viciousness turned to somber silence. He began to work towards becoming a better hunter and warrior, and his mentor's words slowly sunk in. He still had trouble coping with and healthily letting out his emotions, so took to hiding them instead of being vicious. This made him a ticking bomb, but at least he was now approachable and not a moody badger all the time. His catching up period meant he would become a warrior a few moons late at 15, and many apprentices (including his two sisters) did not forget his seemingly unwarranted treatment of them. Pike's mother and mentor remained strong and supportive of him, however, and he would be very grateful of their extended patience and kindness throughout his life.
It was as a young warrior that Piketooth had a a much smoother existence. He started to warm up a little and made a friend or two, and began to find comfort in work. It got his mind of things, helped him focus, and distracted from his internal stresses, which, at the time, was most prevalently his loneliness. So, he took his duties to the Clan seriously and was internally glad to go on whatever extra hunt or patrol was needed. Piketooth's feelings of solitude were wiped away when he started talking to Lizardfang on one morning hunt. He was an older tom, bulky and kind, and Piketooth never paid him much attention before. He grew to admire his strength, courage, and nobleness, along with his bombastic laugh that rumbled like a lion's. It didn't take very long for Piketooth to develop strong feelings for him, loving the time he spent with him and making him laugh. Lizardfang enjoyed Pike as a close companion, bringing out his 'better' (something many clan cats didn't believe existed before) and encouraging him to develop his own viewpoints and listen to others. He also was the only one capable of calming Piketooth when his emotions swelled out of control (which, at the time, was often). Piketooth became reliant on Lizardfang for practically everything, trying to spend every waking moment with him and shutting everyone else out. Lizardfang, pitying him so and not sensing it was anything beyond platonic, didn't have the heart to cut off the unhealthy attachment. It wasn't until the 'surprise' announcement that Lizardfang's mate (who?) was pregnant that realization dawned on Piketooth and he bitterly cut off even speaking rights with his ex friend. The warrior then went through a period of trying to better himself on his own, working at keeping himself under control when his emotions swelled and extending a listening ear to more then one tom. However, though it taught him independence, he had trouble trusting others as much as he could, and became more reserved, particularly with his crushes. Dare he grow attached to another tom, and he internally isn't planning to let them go so easily, nor trust them quite as much. And now that he is developing well-made webs of deceit, he'll find it easier to have them stay in his sites than before.
Piketooth received his first apprentice at a later age. His name was Snakepaw, and he was, much to Pike's bitterness, Lizardfang's oldest son. Piketooth let out quite a few unnecessary remarks and scoldings to the poor tom, and had a generally bad attitude around him. Snakepaw sensed he didn't like him, and became so fed up one day he directly confronted him. Unable to come up with a reasonable answer for his behavior, Piketooth felt a wave of guilt and apologized, and after that, they got along well. He easily disconnected Snakepaw, who was lithe, clever, and reserved, from his father and trained him to the best of his abilities. He even started developing a bit of fatherly affection for him, proud with his every achievement and advising him whenever he asked for it. They found themselves both cynical and with similar senses of humor, so often they'd jest together about other cats or rant about the ridiculous of some new Clan drama. When Snakepaw became a warrior of the name Snakestrike, their friendship continued, and Piketooth was happy to have a strong, platonic bond.
As he was only really close to Snakestrike, Piketooth suffered no tragic loss on the journey. Part of him was excited, and that bursting curiosity from his kit-hood returned with every area discovered. With the new settlement, Piketooth is not as stressed as others. He has never had much of a personal connection with StarClan, and barely notices their absence. He is, however, getting rather annoyed at the constant worried chatter about it, and is zoning out more than usual lately whenever a cat tries to let out their stresses on him about it. He is willing to participate in any efforts to find a new spot to commune with them, if more to shut everyone up about it than any fears about the long-term affect of their absence. His trouble understanding the importance of StarClan to himself means he can't quite fathom what it means to others.
With the promotion to Deputy, Piketooth felt surprised and grateful.Though he already had a strong work ethic, he felt a more loyal sense of pride for his Clan, after all, if he haS trouble seeing the good in himself, why not have something else to feel proud of?
