Where do your demons lie? Many say that they are hidden within our very souls and then some say it's just lurking below the surface - ready to latch on to it's next victim. Now many will come along and see Hailstorm as he would be; a very convenient tom, whose wish is to get the problem out of the way as quickly as possible. He has been known to come out on top with a bad rep for simply not going the hard way. But like every conflicting case, he's seem to be a bit of a rocky tom - hence his name. Faithful is something one can say about Hailstorm; his unbelievable faith in not only others or Starclan - but in himself. It's interesting to see how he can conflict so easily with himself; his faith so strong that at times the convenient side of him begins to lose the battle. But there are times where we see the stubborn will the tom can possess; so what does this mean for other cats around him? It's quite simply really; his faith is rarely tested by himself, and so when one tries to challenge our little mule; you can bet your sweet behind that he will not go down with out a fight. They don't see an angry Hailstorm often; a rare sight in deed, but when the tom has reached a limit he does come out to be a hell of a cat. His voice; usually a warm and booming affair, becomes low and chilled that his apprentice has said; 'chilled me to the bone.' So what else can we say about our furry little friend? Honest and humble are two words that follow suit with out tom in question. It's something that has always been a part of him; ever since childhood.
history
Pre-Moon 0; Dawnfire was a well respected warrior, with a harsh reality about the world. He had aspects of his life that he had to have done; and when it came to a potential mate; he sought the comfort and love of his apprentice Applepaw. The two courted secretly for two moons starting on Applepaw's eleven and twelve moon. It was by sheer bad luck that she wounded up pregnant with kits; and that the clan would become horrified that the senior warrior Dawnfire had fathered them. The two cats nestled together those moons of pregnancy, until the faithful night in which Applepaw was scheduled to give birth; on her sixteenth moon. The toll of the pregnancy on her young body had taken much out of her - and so after the first two kits were born alive; the next two came to be deceased. However; Starclan did not favor the couple; as only days later young Applepaw closed her eyes for good as the infection within her stole her last breath. It was then Dawnfire named his two sons; Hailkit and Somberkit.
Moons 0-6; An unexpected journey through kithood, what more can be said about Somberkit and Hailkit's kit hood? Hailkit, the larger and eldest of the two; stood out like a sore thumb. His large size, clearly noticeable even at this time, made it for a large thump every time he tumbled over his paws. Many thought him useless at a young age and yet as he grew, so did his steps and as his steps grew sturdy and firm, the cats notice the change in his way. His father would stand beside his two sons; both of whom held their mother's bright blue eyes, and encouraged them - whispering sweet encouragements. 'Keep your paws straight and your eyes on the prize, my boys. You will be respected far beyond these mere warriors.' There father would coach them, teach them small and basic positions and by the age of apprenticeship; when their mentors were assigned and their names christened; Hailpaw and Somberpaw, they were almost perfect in their marksmanship.
Moons 6-14; Hailpaw apprentice of Thunderclan, his dreams were becoming true as he given to a senior warrior; Lightfur. A beautiful she-cat who was as stubborn and fierce as any cat who wandered the hollow of Thunderclan camp. Hailpaw was enchanted by the she-cat; her movements so flawless that when he messed up; he cursed himself senseless. 'Your mother had twinkle toes like that Hailpaw, tighten up less you end up like her.' Did he ever mention his mentor was a big of a heartless she-cat. Hailpaw would tighten up; balance better, fight better - but to his mentor he was useless, unable to complete a hunting mission with out falling over his own four paws. It took him an extra four moons over his brother's training to become a warrior; and there his leader spoke; 'I have watched you, and know that the suffix storm will suit you well. There is no doubt you are loyal, but you can change from fierce to gentle like the wind.' And thus his suffix dropped the paw and became storm.
Moons 14-20; Hailstorm would stand proudly beside his smaller brother and father; they're heads reaching his muzzle. It was odd; how the tom grew and became a strong warrior and as he walked he did so with a stride. His faith in himself grew as his mentor - no former mentor - congratulated him, spoke highly of him at a gathering to her friends. He would stand beside her, grinning like a love-sick fool until Lightfur would bat him away. Dawnfire would show distaste at his son's affects for his former mentor, and yet Hailstorm would learn the hard way. On his eighteenth moon, he watched his mentor retire into the elder's den, a smirk as she walked past her apprentice; 'I told my ma I wouldn't settle down, look at me now buck-a-roo.' It was there that Hailstorm noticed this ache in his heart, but with a respectful bow, he grinned and nudged her shoulders. 'Ain't gonna leave you alone, I'm hooked.' But it would be the blow of his mentor's death, only two moons later that would drive him into himself.
Moons 20-30; Lightfur's passing was a hit of the sickness that plagued Riverclan, from whom she had gotten it from. Even his father fell victim to a nasty infection that he refused to get checked. It was such a close call; that even he came down ill. So what did he do once his illness was over? Hailstorm drove into his work; his hunting became mastered and his fighting skills sharpened as he would stare into the challenger's eyes and see himself reflecting back. It was when he met Featherheart that he got a confused feeling. The young warrior of Shadowclan was sweet on him; telling him to suck it up and be a good tom to his clan and not just try to kill cats around him. However, her words; 'Come now Hailstorm, what would your mentor say if I just happened to put this paw over the border?' It was quick, it was simple and the two grew close. It was on his twenty-ninth moon that the leader announced him a mentor to a young Smokepaw - a she-cat with an attitude. On that night he turned to his border friend and was excited to see her. 'Oh Hailstorm I have found love with Gorgeclaw! I am expecting his kits!' His heart didn't ache, to his disbelief, and as he congratulated his friend he gushed with her over kit names.
Moons 30-40; He was never so keen to become what Featherheart called; an uncle. He would train his apprentice Smokepaw, quick and clean and as he continued to meet his friend it was then that he met Gorgeclaw. 'She told me of you; if I didn't know her from kithood, I would assume the worst.' It was quick and quiet; the two toms spoke of the kits she bore - two toms. 'She tells me that the names are Snakekit and Lionkit. I must agree; your name suggestion I assume?' Hailstorm would shake his head and grin cheekily, at the tom. The two toms would depart from each other and not return for moons. At gatherings Gorgeclaw would pass on news of information; 'Lionkit just took off into the forest claiming he would take Thunderclan.' The usual. It was nearing his forty moon that Hailstorm; with his apprentice Smokepaw, started to get into serious training. Smokepaw was grateful and hated that her mentor would gush about kits and Shadowclan warrior - but she fought, fought for attention and seeking pride. But what would happen when suddenly the stars went silent and they were forced to move?
Moons 40-54; It was then that the clans began their move. Smokepaw became Smokefire on the journey, her fire and passion pulling some cats together. However it was Hailstorm that showed the most passion and compassion as he carried kits and let the elders use his large body as a walking stick. It was quick; as they traveled and it was here that he met Snakepaw and Lionpaw; Featherheart's and Gorgeclaw's sons. They were overjoyed and the fives cats grew close as they chatted and spoke of each other. It was as the clans arrived in the valley that things began to fall into it's normal ways. Snakepaw became Snakeclaw, and his brother Lionfang. Hailstorm was able to see these ceremonies and as he followed his brother and clan into Thunderclan, he was never more proud of two toms who were not his kits.
